The Midlothian School of Rock faculty

Midlothian, Texas now has a School of Rock for aspiring singers and musicians

A new performance-based music school has come to Midlothian, Texas.

The School of Rock, an established music education franchise with more than 400 locations worldwide, is now enrolling aspiring musicians and singers from the Midlothin area.

“We’re really excited to give these [musically inclined] kids a home,” says Suzanne White, who co-owns the new location with her husband. “We’re hoping to really bring a good music and arts culture to Midlothian through the School of Rock.”

The school’s approach to music lessons pairs individualized instruction with band rehearsals, offering programs for students as young as four years old through adulthood. The school’s entry-level Little Wing program introduces children ages 4-6 to various instruments, while older students progress through Rookie and Rock 101 programs before advancing to the performance program.

What sets School of Rock apart is its emphasis on live performance, Suzanne says. Students in the performance program spend three hours weekly in band rehearsals, culminating in live shows at real venues. The school even features a prestigious house band program, available by audition only, where top students can perform at major events—some house bands have even played at the annual Rock in Rio music festival in Brazil.

The decision to bring School of Rock to Midlothian was inspired by the experience of Suzanne’s own family. Her son, who showed early talent on guitar, attended a Dallas School of Rock location for years, prompting Suzanne and her husband to speculate that they were not alone in the Midlothian area when it comes to seeking out valuable music resources for their children.

“We saw a ton of value getting him involved with kids of like interest,” Suzannce explains. “We didn’t realize how important that band group performance was, but it really helped excel him forward and kept his interest where he wasn’t getting bored with just one-on-one lessons.”

School of Rock instruction augments the music programs available from school districts, Suzanne says. Even more, students can start earlier than with traditional school programs—which typically begin around 6th grade—and participate in additional performance opportunities.

“It’s just an extra level right of music, so my son’s really involved in his school choir and jazz band and this just takes it to the next level,” Suzanne says. “We’re going to have a student lounge, so these kids feel like they have a place where they belong. They can come even if they don’t have lessons that day — to a culture and a safe place for them to just thrive and that they’re passionate about,” she says.

The school has opened with skilled and vetted instructors who have real-life gig experience to ensure students learn from competent performers. Programs range from $125 to $375 monthly, depending on the intensity level and time commitment.
